2. What should I bring with me to class?
Students MUST bring the following items to the class:
✓ Your valid photo ID
✓ Your printed email ticket
✓ Pen and Paper if you’d like to take notes
✓ Please bring bottled water to keep hydrated
DO NOT bring firearms or ammunition into the classroom
3. *What is the age requirement to attend this class?
Students under 21 are welcome to purchase a seat for class, however, only those age-eligible for a permit will be issued qualifying paperwork.
Arizona: You must be 21 or older to obtain an Arizona permit.
Utah: You must be 21 or older to obtain a Utah permit. For the Utah Provisional permit you must be at least 18 years old and no older than 20.
Age to obtain a permit:
In most states, you must be 21 years of age to apply for your concealed carry permit, however, there are a few states where you can be 18 and apply for a regular or provisional CCW permit including Montana (MT), South Dakota (SD), Utah (UT), and West Virginia, (WV). If you are 20 years of age, (or 18 in MT, SD, UT, & WV) you may take this course but cannot apply for your permits/submit your applications until you are 21 years of age (or 18 in MT, SD, UT & WV). The qualification you receive from the course expires ONE year from the date you take the course for most state permits. Please allow adequate time for your application to be processed prior to your paperwork expiring.
Age to attend the classroom portion of a class:
Students under the age of 18 who are not eligible to get their permits may attend classes only in the company of a parent or guardian who must also sign a participation waiver and indemnification on behalf of the underage student. These under 18 students must pay a discounted class seat fee for the classroom portion on the day of the class. Range sessions are not available to students under 18 for liability and insurance reasons.
4. Do I Receive My Permit(s) At The Class?
No, Legal Heat is a training organization that provides the requisite training course, we do not issue permits. Only the government can issue permits. At the conclusion of the course you will be provided with all the materials and/or information needed to obtain your permit. This includes a certificate of completion showing you have completed the course.
In most states permits are applied for at the local level (Sheriff or courthouse), but in some states you can simply mail in your application to the state and your permit will be mailed back to you. Depending on your jurisdiction, this process can be as quick as a few days or as long as 90 days. Your instructor will provide you with all the information regarding the application process at your course.
5. Where can I carry after I receive my permit(s)?
NOTE: Where a state’s permit is honored (often called “reciprocity”) will change from time to time. Having multiple state carry permits can help cover the gaps in any potential changes. As such, we always suggest checking the Legal Heat App or our Legal Heat “50 State Guide to Firearm Laws and Regulations” book before you travel, to ensure your permit is valid in the locations you will be visiting.
