What should I know about the Arizona Concealed Weapons Permit (CWP)?

September 18, 2019 by Andy Martines

Arizona Concealed Weapons Permit (CWP) Fees:

State application fees of $60 (for the first 5 years) and the renewal fee of $43 (every 5 years after) for Arizona residents and non-residents are paid directly to the state at the time the application is submitted and are not included in the class fee. Arizona permits can be applied for by mail. These forms are provided for you during class and your instructor will assist you in completing them.

After receiving an Arizona Concealed Weapons Permit (CWP), you are allowed to carry a concealed firearm in most places within the state of Arizona. However, there are certain places where carrying a concealed firearm is not allowed, even with a CWP. These include:

  • Federal buildings, such as post offices and courthouses
  • K-12 schools, and school grounds
  • Polling places on election day
  • Nuclear power plants
  • Game refuges, and wildlife management areas
  • Indian reservations, unless you have written permission from the tribe
  • Places where carrying firearms is prohibited by federal law
  • Any place where the carrying of firearms is prohibited by state law or regulation

It’s important to note that private property owners have the right to prohibit firearms on their property, so it’s important to be aware of any posted signs or verbal notices indicating that firearms are not allowed.

Arizona has concealed carry reciprocity agreements with a number of other states, which means that if you have an Arizona Concealed Weapons Permit (CWP), you may be able to legally carry your firearm in those states as well. However, it’s important to check the laws of the state you’re planning to visit or travel through to make sure you’re in compliance with their laws, as laws and regulations may vary from state to state.

Arizona has reciprocity agreements with the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Wyoming.

It’s also important to note that laws and regulations are subject to change, so it’s important to check for updates and for any new agreements or changes in laws that may have been made. It’s also important to check if the state you’re planning to visit has any restrictions or additional requirements for non-residents and out-of-state permit holders.
