This course includes a pass/fail qualification course of fire that many may find challenging. Please review the attached course of fire prior to registering.
Santa Barbara Shooting Drills Test
Please select the following links and complete BOTH liability waivers. The NFI Release of Liability Waiver (#1) must be printed, completed, and brought to your instructor at class. The Winchester Canyon Gun Club Waiver (#2) can be completed online through the link. Please ensure adherence to this process as it will ensure an timely start of the course.

Important Notes:
This class will meet the training requirement for Santa Barbara County ONLY. Residents of the City of Santa Barbara will not be able to obtain a CCW permit with this class currently. Only residents of Santa Barbara county residing outside of city limits should take this course. We are actively working on offering this course to city residents, please check back frequently for updates.
Additionally, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office recommends all applicants should wait to schedule their firearms training until after they have completed their required psychological screening. This is to avoid the cost of training if an applicant does not proceed in the process after the screening.
CLASS DETAILS
This is a two day course. Day 1 will consist of the classroom portion and day 2 will consist of the range portion.
On Day 1, the class will meet at the listed Classroom Location on your ticket at 8am.
On Day 2, the class will meet at Winchester Canyon Gun Club located at 6620 West Camino Cielo, Santa Barbara, CA 93105 at 8am.
During the range portion of this course, students will be taught a defensive shooting curriculum which will include:
- Defensive accuracy
- Firearms manipulation
- Presentation from a holster
- Movement
- Immediate reloading
- Failure to fire drills
- CCW Qualification per issuing agency
The qualification will take place with each firearm listed on CCW permit. Please bring firearms and 200 cartridges for each firearm you wish to list on your permit. Be aware, the qualification course of fire is extremely difficult to complete successfully with a revolver due to forced reloads with a time limit. We strongly encourage students qualify with a mid/full sized semiautomatic handgun.
Upon completion of a 76-cartridge curriculum, you will be required to complete the following 36 cartridge CCW qualification:
Firearm qualification will consist of firing from 3-15 yards.
3 Yards: 12 cartridges in 20 seconds
10 Yards: 12 Cartridges in 30 seconds
15 yards: 12 cartridges in 45 seconds
RANGE PACKING LIST
- All firearms you want to list on your CCW permit. (Mid-full sized semi-automatic handguns highly recommended)
- 200 Cartridges per firearm
- OWB or IWB hip holster
- Eye and Ear Protection
- Closed-toes shoes
- Baseball, or other brimmed cap
- Snacks and drinks if desired
- Folding chair for breaks on the range
- Completed documents attached above

Punctuality Policy:
Please show up PROMPTLY for class. Please keep in mind some of our classes start at the same time the store opens, so please check the store hours and ensure you are seated in the class at start time. Our instructors are required by law to cover a certain amount of material. If you are not present for the entire class, you will not be qualified for the permit(s). If you show up late, you may be turned away and asked to reschedule. Our instructors cannot risk their accreditations by certifying those who are not in attendance for the entire class, or people who are absent from any significant portion of the class. You may reschedule your paid class once for free, and then for $15.00 per additional reschedule within a year of purchase. Thank you for your support. We look forward to seeing you for a great class!
Safety Policy:
There are no compromises on safety. Safety is a critical aspect of all classes and unsafe or disruptive behavior in class or on the range will result in dismissal. In the event you are dismissed due to a safety issue, you will not be refunded. The instructor has sole discretion in determining if you have engaged in unsafe or disruptive behavior.
Refund Policy:
Class fees are nonrefundable. Classes rescheduled due to acts of God, including extreme weather or store closures outside of Legal Heat's control will be rescheduled in place of a refund. Changes in class location or class schedule will be communicated by the email address and phone number you provide. All content is subject to change without notice.
All future class dates are tentative based upon Corona Virus restrictions. By purchasing a ticket you agree that all in-person class fees are 100% NON-REFUNDABLE. You accept that if your class has to be rescheduled due to Corona Virus directives from any governmental entity, venue partner or for ANY other reason, your only recourse is to reschedule the class for a future date.
COVID-19 Notice:
In the interest of everyone's health and safety, we are asking students who do not feel well on the day of class to reschedule their class for a future date at no charge. If you have health concerns about attending a class, we are happy to reschedule your class for a future class date at no charge. If you need to reschedule your course, please email your original receipt to [email protected], along with the date of the future class you would like to attend.

Rescheduling of Future Classes:
Unless we notify you otherwise classes will continue as scheduled. Legal Heat will comply with CDC directives and any governmental orders, and if classes are rescheduled because of these directives and orders, you will be notified. We will make the best effort attempts to hold all classes as scheduled. However, all class registrants assume the full risk if the course needs to be rescheduled to a future date due to Corona Virus / COVID 19 directives from either government or our retail partners.
